Great Dane Defense Competition

Live Red Team
Defensive

The Great Dane Defense Competition (GDDC) is a Red vs. Blue cyber defense competition. Students are given a network of computers and are tasked with defending against a group of hackers while maintaining business continuity and responding to “Injects” from company officials. In the competition scenario, students act as employees of a fictional organization under cyber attack and must protect critical systems such as databases, Windows Active Directory, DNS, and web servers. To add additional pressure to the competition, participants also handle Capture the Flag (CTF) questions for points, all while under the scrutiny of the Gold Team—a group of industry cybersecurity professionals who act as the C-suite executives of the fictional organization. They evaluate how well competitors can translate technical incidents into business-relevant terms and make informed decisions under pressure. Scoring is based on service uptime, mitigation of Red Team activity, CTF progress, Gold Team feedback, and the quality of Inject responses.
